Holy mother of God. I now hate James. Seriously. Hate. James. Will hate him more tomorrow, thats for sure.
Started out on the hack squat machine. Medieval contraption of torture meant to strengthen your legs and butt. I am sure that thousands of confessions were made due to that machines efforts. Then on to leg extensions...he though we would go up to 70 pounds just to see me cry. Hamstring curls didnt hurt (thankfully). Then I stood up from the machine and my legs decided to betray the bravado I felt and collapsed beneath me. So he let me work out the muscles a little with a 2 min walk on a tread mill. Then this weird climbing machine, then the old fashioned stationary bike with the moving handles... high resistance, had to do bursts of high speed for 20 seconds...four sets. OK, so that doesn't sound hideous but I was almost throwing up as a result. The sad part? He wanted me to hurl! He actually encouraged it!
Did some ab work and then some intervals on the tread mill. I was expecting to look 'glowing' but instead when I looked in the mirror in the bathroom I looked bright red like a boiled lobster. Ugh. Obviously this guy is worth the money! Tomorrow promises to hurt like hell!

Personal Training starts Tuesday
OK, so I look at pictures of myself 5 yrs ago and I want to be that Beth again. Yeah, I looked good. I wish I'd realized it then! So I took that picture that i want to get back to and showed it to the trainer, James, and said this was my goal. Its not a number on a scale... its a look and a life style that I want back.
So this starts my journey. I went to the gym on Saturday and took the spin class and then met with James to sign the contract for the personal training. We then went to body pump after setting up our appts for Tuesday and Thursday at 6am, and Saturdays at 8am. We have until January 17. By then I need to be me again. I need to be super dedicated, because I'm probably looking at losing 50-60 lbs.
Lesson one: after 3 1/2 yrs since my last spin class I forgot something very important - spin bike seats hurt like hell on one's tushy. So didn't have the proper padded butt pants. OOPS!! Paying for it now.
Lesson two: Any 'body pump' instructor who thinks that a 'lunge track' is a good idea is a sadistic woman.
I don't know who I was throwing mental darts at more, the spin instructor or the body pump instructor! :)
Anyway - 4am wakeup call tomorrow so that I can go to the gym. I went last Wednesday-Saturday. Trying to do Monday-Saturday. Let's see how this goes! ;)
